Sprint Offers High-Speed Wi-Fi Services for
Convention and Meeting Visitors at Mohegan Sun to
Help Customers Bring Their Office with Them
Mohegan Sun is first public venue to offer PCS
Wi-Fi Access from Sprint over InnerWireless in-building system
September 16, 2002 [OVERLAND PARK, Kan.]
– Today, Sprint (NYSE: FON, PCS) announced the availability
of a new hassle-free way to stay plugged in while attending meetings
or conventions at Mohegan Sun, one of the premier meeting, entertainment,
gaming, dining and shopping destinations on the East Coast. PCS
Wi-Fi Access is a new high-speed wireless data service that uses
802.11b technology to enable mobile professionals to replicate their
desktop environment and to get remote access to the Internet, e-mail
and corporate applications while away from the office. Mohegan Sun
guests will enjoy the convenience and productivity benefits of high-speed
Wi-Fi access in the facility’s convention area and meeting
rooms – at speeds up to 100 times faster than standard dialup.
With more than 100,000 square feet of high-tech meeting and function
space, Mohegan Sun houses the Northeast’s largest ballroom
in addition to 30 conference and breakout rooms. PCS Wi-Fi Access
from Sprint is distributed seamlessly throughout the convention
area by InnerWireless, a broadband in-building wireless system from
InnerWireless, a leading turnkey in-building wireless distribution
systems company.
“Sprint is focused on providing public Wi-Fi services in
locations such as airports, hotels and convention centers where
customers need it most and can derive the greatest benefit,”
said Phil Bowman, vice president, business marketing for the PCS
Division of Sprint. “We are pleased to provide a Wi-Fi solution
for Mohegan Sun that will make it simple and easy for business travelers
and guests to wirelessly access important information at multi-megabit
speeds and allow them to be productive while away from their office
or home. PCS Wi-Fi Access is a perfect complement to customers already
using PCS VisionSM services offered via the enhanced Sprint Nationwide
PCS Network, currently the largest next generation network in the
United States.”
The new high-speed wireless service will allow Mohegan Sun guests
to conduct business from anywhere in the convention area and meeting
rooms. Customers will need a Wi-Fi Internet card or laptop embedded
with Wi-Fi technology in order to take advantage of the service.
While not required to use PCS Wi-Fi Access at Mohegan Sun, PCS Connection
ManagerSM Software with Wi-Fi enables customers to manage the service
in hundreds of other compatible public Wi-Fi ZONES in a consistent
manner. To subscribe for the service, customers can download the
software at www.sprintbusiness.com/pcsbusiness. The software includes
the ability to detect Wi-Fi service, as well as a directory of all
compatible PCS Wi-Fi Access locations that is automatically updated
as new locations are added.
“Mohegan Sun prides itself for providing world-class services
and amenities to our guests and patrons,” said Jonathan Arnesen,
Mohegan Sun. “By implementing PCS Wi-Fi Access from Sprint,
we can offer a cutting-edge technology that provides convenient,
high-speed wireless connectivity to our guests in the convention
and meeting areas. The InnerWireless system is ideal for our facility
because it allows us to readily add new services like PCS Wi-Fi
Access without system upgrades and delivers a consistent, reliable
blanket of in-building wireless coverage.”
Through a combination of Wi-Fi ZONES‰ built and managed by
Sprint and agreements with Wi-Fi service providers including Wayport,
Airpath Wireless and Cometa Networks, Sprint expects PCS Wi-Fi Access
to be available in a total of over 2,100 locations by early 2004.
Mohegan Sun is the first Sprint owned and operated public Wi-Fi
ZONE to be deployed in a large public venue as part of PCS Wi-Fi
Access.
“We’re delighted that Sprint elected to use our InnerWireless
system at Mohegan Sun to provide consistent, reliable coverage for
their new public Wi-Fi service,” said Ed Cantwell, InnerWireless
president and CEO. “Mohegan Sun has a clear and progressive
vision of the power of wireless services and applications for their
guests and as an enterprise. The PCS Wi-Fi Access deployment highlights
their commitment to this vision and demonstrates our system’s
ability to easily add and handle multiple wireless services and
protocols, including Wi-Fi, over a single broadband infrastructure.”
PCS Wi-Fi Access is priced at $9.95 per connection, per location
for 24 hours of unlimited access. Now through Dec. 31, 2003, users
will receive a promotional discount of $3.00 off on all PCS Wi-Fi
Access connections for a rate of $6.95 for 24 hours of unlimited
use at compatible locations. Customers can get information about
their PCS Wi-Fi Access account by calling 1-866-PCS-WiFi from any
phone or pressing #-W-i-F-i from their PCS Phone.
