Q & A

Q: How easy is it to upgrade Horizon4G to additional wireless service providers or to new technologies, such as 4G LTE?

A: Since Horizon4G is a broadband solution, adding new wireless service providers or even new technologies, such as 4G LTE, can be as simple as plugging in a new radio source.

Q: How do wireless service providers connect to Horizon4G?

A: Traditionally, a
bi-directional amplifier has been used to deliver voice-grade connectivity to a DAS by sharing signals with the outside macro network; however, today capacity is the key-driver for data-grade connectivity and a dedicated micro-cell or BTS is becoming the more popular way for wireless service providers to connect.

InnerWireless Horizon4G - Wide-Area Services

Smartphone and wireless data usage is more than doubling every year, 80% of mobile usage occurs in-doors, and many municipalities are beginning to mandate wireless fire/life/safety services.  Clearly, mobility is expanding and yet as few as 20% of buildings have acceptable wireless coverage.

Broadband Wireless

Horizon4G is a single, broadband distributed antenna system (DAS) that can deliver virtually any wireless service, from 450 MHz to 6 GHz.  Engineered for facility- and campus-wide deployments, Horizon4G supports all key wide-area services:

  • 2G and 3G - Cellular/PCS and 4G LTE - 700 MHz/AWS
  • Fire/Life/Safety – 700 MHz and 2-Way Radio – 800 MHz
  • Paging – 450 MHz

Enabling multiple wireless services with a single, common infrastructure often exceeds the performance of single-purpose, discrete wireless systems.  Horizon4G not only eliminates multiple, separate infrastructures and installations but also reduces the costs associated with maintaining multiple systems.

Point-of-Use Coverage

Consistent wireless coverage is one of the keys of any successful wireless deployment.  With new technologies, such as 4G LTE, coverage requirements are becoming more and more critical.

Traditionally, in-building wireless systems, including some pre-3G/4G DAS, have been sparsely deployed to improve voice coverage, but data intensive smartphones require higher signal levels and wireless service providers are also increasing connectivity requirements (e.g.+8 dB > existing signals, -75 dBm). This is one of the many benefits of the Horizon4G solution.  Leveraging a dense deployment of MIMO-capable broadband antennas, InnerWireless independently engineers each wide area frequency – from 450 MHz to 1.7/2.1 GHz – to create uniform signal level coverage, prevent blockages and shadows, and meet even the toughest coverage requirements – guaranteed.

Engineered Capacity

Horizon4G makes it easy and affordable for WSPs to provide service in your enterprise.  Horizon4G uses modular connectivity to support only the WSPs that you need, while providing independently managed RF channels that the WSPs require.  InnerWireless collaborates with each WSP to provide a WSP compliant signal source that aligns the capacity requirements of your enterprise for both the DAS and the WSP external network so that ensuring the right in-building performance is a simple as connecting the signal source to the DAS.

24x7 Availability

24x7 availability begins with reliability.  Horizon4G uses highly reliable carrier-grade components that can be monitored, via SNMP monitoring, either on-site or remotely to ensure that wireless in your enterprise is available all of the time.  Additionally, InnerWireless professional services, from deploying Horizon4G to managing the entire wireless life-cycle, including wireless service provider coordination, help you keep pace with your wireless ecosystem.
