“Hospitals use wireless to do so much. Usually each application requires its own network. We
decided we couldn’t take the traditional method. Otherwise we were never going to get out of
the ceilings. Instead, we are using InnerWireless Horizon for all our wireless needs.”
— Richard Mohnk Vice President and CIO
HealthAlliance

“Nurses are more mobile within the new critical care hospital. They are responsible for
managing the same number of patients spread out over a physical floor space three times larger
than the older facility. Nurses do not have time or luxury to make unnecessary trips to the
nursing station without potentially negatively impact patient care.”
— Heather Craven RN, MS, CMSRN Virginia Commonwealth University Health System

Q & A |
 |
|
Q: We have deployed Wi-Fi, but how does
Horizon help support VoWLAN, mobile HIS access, and RTLS applications?
A: Both wireless coverage and capacity are key to new
Wi-Fi applications, without coverage the multi-million
dollar HIS or RTLS system may go unused and existing discrete Wi-Fi
deployments may not have enough bandwidth for VoWLAN. With Horizon and Layered WLAN capacity is
2-3x a discrete Wi-Fi deployment with guaranteed coverage.

Q: As a result of the ARRA funding, we’re implementing EMR. How
can InnerWireless help to insure our success?
A: InnerWireless recently launched Wireless as a Service (WaaS) to
provide hospitals with guaranteed ubiquitous wireless coverage and capacity to support robust
applications (such as EHRs) all at a fixed monthly rate. This solution lives in your OPEX budget
so you can free up CAPEX dollars for further equipment and technology purchases.

Wireless in Healthcare |
 |
The demand for mobility and 24/7 clinical communications are driving the need for reliable
wireless coverage and capacity in healthcare. Smartphones, VoWLAN handsets, mobile computers,
telemetry systems and more are being used to access life-critical
applications at the point of care, including HIS, Electronic Medical Records (EMRs),
PACS, and digital imaging. And care is evolving. With new patient towers and
all-private rooms facilities being constructed, hospitals are
relying on wireless collaboration to improve efficiency. But to ensure adoption, wireless
has to work. As wireless becomes a key component of critical care, a wireless platform can
enable the communication backbone for delivering medical information well into the future.

Healthcare Wireless Applications
- Clinical Collaboration: Smartphones, VoWLAN, nurse call, real-time alerts
- Patient Information: EMR, PACS, digital Imaging, HIS, CPOE, meds management
- Patient Safety: WMTS, temperature monitoring, asset tracking, infusion therapy, wireless clocks
Wireless Assurance
- Converged Wireless: A single broadband antenna infrastructure supports all wireless
services, including 3G+ Cellular, 802.11 a, b/g, n Wi-Fi, WMTS, Fire-Life-Safety, 2-Way Radio, Paging.
- Guaranteed Coverage: From a new patient tower to a hospital retrofit to the medical
office buildings Horizon is engineered by InnerWireless to provide guaranteed coverage for each
and every wireless signal and not just in the main areas, but stairwells, basements and elevators too.
- Optimized Capacity: As wireless devices are increasing the number of voice, data,
location, and clinical users are putting a strain on conventional deployments.
- With a unique layered WLAN architecture, clinical data, guest data, VoWLAN, and
other Wi-Fi applications can be assigned to separate
non-conflicting Wi-Fi channels
to yield 2-3x the network performance of discrete networks.
- Support of up to 8 wireless carriers ensures performance of Smartphones regardless of carrier.
- Whole-house telemetry allows any room in the hospital to be used for patients requiring critical care support.
- Simple Operations: With broadband, passive antennas InnerWireless can provide both an
industry-leading 5 year warranty, minimized infection control for new
wireless applications, and the lowest impact on IT staff and facilities.
- Best Practices: InnerWireless focuses on best wireless practices for the network,
applications and devices using:
- InnerWireless professional services ranging from Engineering and Deployment to Carrier
Connectivity to Wi-Fi Evolution
- Partnership with strategic medical vendors, including Philips, Cisco, and AeroScout
