Ed Cantwell,
Chairman of the Board
Ed Cantwell is an InnerWireless founder
and currently serves as its president, chief executive officer and
chairman of the Board. Ed has more than 10 years' experience in
the technology industry leading both large and venture-backed companies.
While serving as a mentor with STARTech, the Richardson, Texas-based
technology incubator, Ed saw the potential for a significant service
business in a component manufactured by a small firm that was seeking
funding.
Leveraging his experience in the fixed broadband
industry of bringing together wireless services with commercial
building operators, Ed assembled today’s InnerWireless team,
developed the company business proposition and successfully guided
the company to its $18.1 million venture investment in September
2001.
Ed’s fixed wireless experience began while in Texas Instruments’
MulTIPoint division. There he led the development of the company's
LMDS business that included successfully obtaining spectrum allocations
from the FCC. What started as an incubator project there became
SpectraPoint Wireless and Ed served as its president and CEO. Ed
spun the company out of TI to become a unit of Bosch Telecom, doubling
the company’s value in the process. While serving as the new
company’s president and CEO, Ed then engineered the company’s
acquisition by Cisco, realizing an eight-fold increase in value
before guiding the formation of an LLC with Motorola.
Before founding SpectraPoint, Cantwell held several positions within
TI’s Defense Systems and Electronics Group, where he helped
to develop a variety of communications and weapons systems. Cantwell
also served as an Air Force fighter pilot for 12 years.
He is a seasoned speaker and has presented at numerous industry
events such as WCA, CTIA and broadband fixed wireless shows.
Cantwell graduated from the University of Michigan’s executive
training program and is a graduate of the Air Force’s fighter
weapons school. He holds a bachelor of science degree in mechanical
engineering from Duke University.
