DAS in Action – DAS from A to Z

The 2013 PCIA DAS in Action was a great event.  Relive one of the key panels where our own Kevin Swank, Director of Product Marketing and a great panel from CommScope, AT&T, ADRF, TE Connectivity, and Phillips Lytle discuss the ins and outs of DAS, including:

  • Types of DAS and building applicability
  • Different industry business models
  • Issuing and RFP and procurement
  • Installation and post installation

Don’t stop there.  You can then go onto youtube and watch more DAS in Action videos. and relive 2 days of great learning that were recorded by RCR Wireless.

HIMSS13 – Meet the demands of mHealth.

HIMSS13

We will be at HIMSS13 and looking forward to the broad discussions on the numerous solutions that Black Box can enable for mHealth. Solutions that reliably deliver communications everywhere in your healthcare facilities.  (Simply click on the icons below to learn more about the solutions that we will be demonstrating at HIMSS13 or visit blackbox.com/go/Healthcare to enter our iPad mini giveaway.)

Distributed-System
Bring cellular coverage indoors through multiservice wireless delivery from InnerWireless4G—a family of distributed antenna solutions (DAS). You’ll get mission-critical, performance-quality voice and data communications.

 High-Capacity-Wi-Fi
Capacity is the new challenge for Wi-Fi. We’ll help you enable mission-critical WLAN with InnerWirelessHD3, an advanced deployment methodology. It independently manages coverage and capacity to ensure multiple, independent WLANs coexist in high-traffic areas and across your entire facility.

Unified-Communications
See how a Unified Communications solution works and how your organization can benefit from it. We’ll develop a practical road map so you can migrate to and make the most of Unified Communications.

Video-Conferencing
Take advantage of our full-cycle audio-visual solutions, including network and system design, project management, and round-the-clock technical support, to get the right equipment for your presentations and videoconferences.

 Digital-Signage
Black Box offers IT integration expertise, objective advice, and free application engineering support for digital signage. Our award-winning iCOMPEL solution is a flexible and affordable system that meets the needs of most hospitals.

We offer start-to-finish services for all infrastructure types and network sizes. With 37 years of experience and a global footprint, Black Box can be the single source for all your infrastructure needs.

iPhone5 and 4G LTE

The iPhone® 5 is setting new sales records and will ultimately create an estimated influx of 26-80 million 4G LTE users.*

This influx has already started.

What does this mean for your facility?

  • Smartphone coverage is currently one of the leading issues challenging building owners and IT professionals.
  • Yet, a significant portion of buildings where we spend 70-80% of our time barely have adequate coverage for 3G and previous iPhones.
  • With the iPhone5 and 4G LTE in-building performance will get worse, not better.

Why?

  • The iPhone5 with 4G LTE unleashes significant data bandwidth for users and mobile applications, but with this bandwidth come more stringent coverage and capacity requirements.  For most facilities, this means that a properly engineered in-building distributed antenna solutions (DAS) is required for 4G LTE to operate correctly.
  • And the carriers agree – mandating that all DAS deployment be “4G ready.”

Be ready. Visit our DAS solutions for more information.

In-Building Wireless Survey

I thought you might be interested in some recent survey results concerning the current state of wireless in hospitals today.

The survey was conducted by InnerWireless last month.  170 participants provided the following responses:

  • 55% indicated that cell service needed to be improved
  • 46% indicated the Wi-Fi service needed to be improved
  • 22% indicated that they had a DAS (others answered no, don’t know, what’s a DAS)
  • 50% of those stating they had a DAS stated that cell service still needed to be improved
  • 41% had building projects underway or in their future

My takeaway:
The healthcare vertical remains a very hot market for in-building DAS solutions, driven in large part by smartphones and cellular services. And when coupled with the amount of new healthcare building projects there is a great opportunity to improve key wireless services across the industry. I also found the survey result of 50% of those with a DAS stated that their cell service still needed to be improved concerning.

Could it be that not all DAS solutions and IBW partners are created equal?

We think so and have a 100% first time acceptance to prove it.
